About this role

Job Description

The roles and responsibilities for this Project Engineer Manager position include, but are not limited to:

Manage engineering design, procurement, and construction activities within the mining company. Engineering Manager will generally be responsible for projects in the $500 million to multi-billion dollar range. Provide technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned large/complex engineering projects, programs and contracts, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost.


  • Nature of work: Works on extremely complex issues, implements solutions through individual effort but may delegate more routine tasks to others.
  • Level of interaction: Collaborates with Project Managers and site leaders and interacts with external colleagues, Governmental Agencies and senior Freeport Management
  • Autonomy/decision making: Works under limited supervision and has significant latitude to set objectives, priorities and timelines that may affect a group or functional area within the company.
  • Budgetary responsibility: Contributes to budget preparation by supplying costs and recommendations.

Job Requirements

To qualify for this position an eligible candidate must possess the following skills/experience:

  • Responsible for the scope, cost, schedule, safety, management and quality associated with projects within the mining company
  • Manage, monitor and report on the work performance of the engineering department on capital projects
  • Review and/or develop scopes of work for all departments within the various projects
  • Support senior project managers in projects with a value in excess of $500 million
  • Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment as approved and required
  • Provides guidance and counsel to the project and site management teams on applicable processes, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations.

About you


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum and minimum 5 years managerial experience of capital projects in engineering management from project inception through engineering, construction and commissioning.
  • Candidate must have a minimum 5 year experience in principles and practices of mechanical engineering on international mining projects
  • Candidate must have a minimum 5 years experience on international copper and gold mining projects.
  • Candidate must have a minimum 5 year experience in slurry pumping, raw overland pumping and Cathodic protection for mining projects
  • Professional Engineer’s license is required
  • Extensive technical knowledge in mechanical equipment specifications, installation, troubleshooting and quality control in the mining industry
  • Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical engineering
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and to adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skill in following safety practices, and recognizing, controlling and/or eliminating hazards Ability to build trust and credibility with employees/peers and establish common goals and expectations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Fluency in English

What we offer

Job Offer

This will be an 18-month contract position. A daily inclusive rate between $1,600 USD to $2,000 USD including living and travel allowances will be extended to the selected candidate. The successful candidate would be expected to work a minimum 40 hours per week on a rotation of 8 weeks on/ 2 weeks off.
