Brunel is currently searching for a Chief Information Officer (CIO) for our client located in Saginaw, MI with potential satellite office in Auburn Hills, MI.

The CIO oversees the use of Information technology (IT). The selected candidate will devise Company’s IT strategy globally and will ensure that all systems, technologies and processes are in place to support and enable the Company’s operations and objectives.

The Company’s global IT organization is comprised of a Corporate IT team based in the U.S. and Regional/Country IT staffs in each of manufacturing site around the globe. The Regional IT Managers have dual reporting lines to their home country and the CIO.

Our client is looking for an IT professional with a background in information system architecture & business support, infrastructure design, cybersecurity, security & privacy and delivery of IT services who can direct our ever-changing IT needs. The selected candidate will be responsible for evaluating our existing technologies and processes, advising the executive team on cost effectiveness and competitive advantage and ensuring the security of the Company’s systems globally.

About this role

  • As a member of the senior management team, the CIO is a key contributor to the formulation of the company’s business and digital strategies, resource use and allocation.
  • Proactively advise senior management team on emerging technologies and digital trends that are most relevant to the company's goals and evolving needs.
  • Develop an IT vision, strategy and roadmap and lead the IT team and its business partners in effective execution while setting specific objectives for the IT department.
  • Ensure, on an ongoing basis, that current and planned technical architecture, investments and solutions are aligned with company business objectives.
  • Analyze, select and implement suitable technology to streamline Company operations and optimize strategic benefits, including the design and optimization of systems and platforms to improve the customer experience.
  • Prepare and monitor IT operational budgets that meet prevailing objectives and constraints, including capital investment parameters and priorities for enterprise-wide IT infrastructure.
  • Analyze the costs, value and risks of information technology, advise management of suggested actions, and implement cost savings initiatives.
  • Develop and execute an analytics program that will allow company business leaders to make data-based decisions.
  • Maintain established partnerships and oversee all vendors and managed service agreements for computing, telecommunications, IT services and equipment.
  • Establish metrics for managing IT effectiveness and for measuring the impact of IT on the business.
  • Establish and enforce IT policies, processes, portfolio management, development standards and methodologies.
  • Monitor changes and advancements in technology to discover ways Company can gain competitive advantage.
  • Establish comprehensive Corporate Information Protection and Cyber Security programs, ensuring Company assets are protected and risks are mitigated to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of relevant data.
  • Lead the design and implementation of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
  • Build strong relationships with functional groups and their leaders across the enterprise and develop a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges and opportunities and ensure all Nexteer functional areas effectively use technology to achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Ensure transparency and collaboration between the IT organization and its business partners.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, transparency and accountability. Promote a “business-first” mentality at all levels of the IT organization.
  • Hire, develop, evaluate, reward and retain a highly-qualified team of IT professionals.
  • Ensure that the organization has strong systems analysis and project management skills and the ability to execute business-critical projects.
  • Develop and maintain a plan that provides for succession and continuity in the most critical IT management positions.

About you

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or related field
  • Graduate degree in Information Technology related field or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in information technology, resource management, security or other IT related discipline
  • Proven experience as CIO or similar senior managerial role
  • Preference to candidate with previous experience working in an automotive or manufacturing environment.
  • A strong strategic and business mindset with exceptional business acumen, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High energy executive; tenacious and passionate about reaching the goal, while keeping ego in check.
  • Ability to create a clear strategic vision for information technology that supports business objectives and can execute on that vision.
  • Able to work collaboratively with diverse leaders, communicate an IT vision and strategy across all levels of the organization, and build consensus around key initiatives and projects.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A team player who favors collaborative approaches when working with internal and external partners.
  • Proven ability to build trust with others through a commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards.
  • Experience leading complex, major change initiatives; demonstrated skills in change management. Demonstrated experience driving digital transformation and business growth through innovation and the implementation of technology.
  • Possess solid knowledge in emerging technologies, IT systems and infrastructure and the ability to apply these in the service of the Company’s key business goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire and motivate a high performing IT team that values transparency and accountability.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with internal customers and external service providers. Builder of strong technology vendor partnerships, and able to manage multiple vendor relationships to ensure the best performance and financial return.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement comprehensive approaches to cyber security and risk management.

MUST be willing to travel locally and internationally. International travel expected to be 30% of the time to China, India, Mexico, Poland and Morocco.
